Burn, Rewrite, Reread Tag | Books at Dawn
Hey guys!
I was tagged by Rae over at Bookmark Chronicles to do the Burn, Rewrite, Reread Tag. This looked like such a fun tag to do which may put me in some hot waters if a lot of my favorite books show up! So thank you Rae for all this wonderful torture I’m sure I am about to go through!
Rules:
- Randomly choose 3 books. (Use the ‘random’ option on your Goodreads read shelf. Thanks for that tip, it makes this so much easier)
- For each group, decide which book to burn, which one to rewrite, and which to reread. (A lot like Kiss, Marry, Kill.)
- Repeat until you completed three rounds (or five) 🙂
Okay, let’s do this!
ROUND 1
BURN: The Iron Trial by Holly Black/Cassandra Clare. I just did not like this book. In my opinion it is a horrible middle grade.
REWRITE: The Legacy of Kings by Eleanor Herman. Don’t get me wrong, I liked this book a lot. But I think I would rewrite the first quarter of it and lay off the heavy romance nonsense that was there.
REREAD: Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson. This book was great! Everything I could have wanted in a book with Superheroes and Super Villains.
ROUND 2
BURN: Lying Out Loud by Kody Keplinger. No shock there. This book was boring as hell!
REWRITE: A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas. I would rewrite the last quarter of this book. This three quarters are fantastic! But that last part when they’re in the cave and she is paraded around as a slave just made me so uncomfortable….
REREAD: Soulless by Gail Carriger. This was my first ever steampunk paranormal fantasy I’ve read and I loved it. It is well written and smart, and I loved all the characters too!
ROUND 3
BURN: Wayward Vol. 1 by Jim Zub. Sorry Wayward… I loved your story and your art, but up against these two, you’re going to lose.
REWRITE: Saga Vol. 1 by Brian k. Vaughan. I don’t know what part of this graphic novel I would attempt to rewrite because it was so freaking good, but I’m sure there is something I can add to it!
REREAD: The Five Stages of Andrew Brawley by Shaun David Hutchinson. This novel was brilliant and heart breaking. I would read it a thousand times over!
ROUND 4
I should have stopped at Round 3… this one is going to break my soul!
BURN: Saga Vol. 2 by Brian K. Vaughan. I’m so sorry Saga… you got the shit end of the stick this round! Nothing personal… keep on being your amazing self!
REWRITE: Gathering Darkness by Morgan Rhodes. This is breaking my soul right now. This is one of my favorites from the Falling Kingdoms series and it’s absolute perfection. SO the only thing I will rewrite is the ending where a certain character I loved gets back stabbed… you know who Morgan!
REREAD: Golden Son by Pierce Brown. I literally just finished this book a couple days ago and man I was blown away! That ending needed to be read over and over again. Hot damn!
ROUND 5
BURN: Paper Towns by John Green. I hold no allegiances to Mr. Green, and although this is a good book, I might just have to burn it this round. Oops!
REWRITE: Rat Queens Vol. 2 by Kurtis J. Wiebe. This graphic novel had a lot of chapters on character back story, and I loved it. But I might rewrite and throw some more action sequences into the mix!
REREAD: The Secret Heeder by Fleur Camacho. One of my favorite sequels from an indie author I’ve read so far! I loved the time traveling adventure they went on this time around and would love to read it again sometime!

Summer Reader | TAG
Hey guys!
I was tagged by Erika over @ Erika In Bookadventureland. First off I want to thank her for tagging me and that you should go check out her blog because she’s awesome! So now that summer is over for me and autumn has arrived, it’s time to put away my shorts and tanks and pull out my pants and sweaters! What better way to end off the season then to finish it with a book related tag. So let’s do this!
LEMONADE: pick a book that started off bitter, but got better.
Why have I chosen Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas? Well that’s because I was not so thrilled with Throne of Glass and therefore this book was starting on a bitter note. But by the end of it I was super into it and couldn’t wait to pick up the next book. Finally the plot thickened and more and more fantasy elements were being explored!
GOLDEN SUN: pick a book that made you smile beyond compare.
Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli put the biggest smile on my face. I was absolutely in love with this book from beginning to end. I loved the romance, the drama, and the big reveal at the end. Simon and Blue were adorable and perfect for each other. I wish there was a sequel! I need more of them in my life.
TROPICAL FLOWERS: pick a book set in a foreign country.
Cinder by Marissa Meyer is set in New Beijing from the future. A newly re-imagined Asia called the Eastern Commonwealth. As I have never been to Beijing or Asia before, it was quite cool to experience a futuristic version in this book. I could have listed Scarlet and Cress as well as they are set in future versions of Europe and Africa!
TREE SHADE: pick a book in which a mysterious or shady character was first introduced.
Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo introduced a very mysterious and shady character. It’s none other then The Darkling himself. He is pretty much made of darkness and we don’t learn much about him until the ending. I’m looking forward to see how his character developments in the future books of the series!
BEACH SAND: pick a book that was grainy, and the plot barely developed.
The Iron Trial by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black has ultimately fallen flat for me. I didn’t like the pacing of the story and felt it was barely developing as it continued. They spent so much time sorting through grains of sand that I was getting quite bored in the middle. So I thought it was quite literally the perfect book to put in this category.
GREEN GRASS: pick a character(s) that were full of life, making you smile.
Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon is a perfect example of a character so full of life, because she has never been able to actually experience it. It’s none other then Madeline. Having been kept in the bubble of her home because of her disease she has never been able to get a fresh breath of air. So when she finally gets the chance she grabs life by the reins and makes the best of it while she can!
WATERMELON: pick a book that had some juicy secrets.
Steelheart by Brandon Sanderson. I felt like everyone had all these juicy secrets that they were keeping. I mean all the Epic’s keep their weakness a secret as best as they can. The Prof, Megan, David and the rest of the reckoners all seemed to be hiding things from each other which ended up to be some real juicy ones!
SUN HAT: pick a book that had a vast, big universe/setting.
Red Rising by Pierce Brown had a vast universal setting quite literally, it was set in space. There was so much to the world of Red Rising with the whole color caste system. Everyone had a place in the world and it takes a lowly red to infiltrate the high golds to achieve justice for horrible slave working.
BBQ: pick a book in which a character was portrayed as a hunk.
The Splintered Trilogy by A.G.Howard houses one of my all time favorite hunks, and that is Jeb! He was the most realistic teenage boy in my opinion and completely swoon worthy. He is also described to a T of what my ideal type is. He was just perfect in every way possible.
