The survivors were few, but over the course of centuries they banded together to form a new civilization—the Descendancy—founded on the belief that the mistakes of the past must never be repeated.

Brothers Clive and Clover Hamill, the sons of a well-respected Descendant minister, have spent their lives spreading that gospel. But when their traveling ministry discovers a community intent on rediscovering the blasphemous technologies of the past, a chain of events will be set in motion that will pit city against city…and brother against brother.

Alongside Jez Poplin, Clive’s childhood sweetheart, and Paz Dedios, a revolutionary who dreams of overthrowing the Descendancy, Clive’s and Clover’s paths will diverge, and each will play a part in determining the fate of humanity itself.

When I Am Through with You by Stephanie Kuehn

Published by Dutton Books for Young Readers

August 1st 2017

When I Am Through With You“This isn’t meant to be a confession. Not in any spiritual sense of the word. Yes, I’m in jail at the moment. I imagine I’ll be here for a long time, considering. But I’m not writing this down for absolution and I’m not seeking forgiveness, not even from myself. Because I’m not sorry for what I did to Rose. I’m just not. Not for any of it.”

Ben Gibson is many things, but he’s not sorry and he’s not a liar. He will tell you exactly about what happened on what started as a simple school camping trip in the mountains. About who lived and who died. About who killed and who had the best of intentions. But he’s going to tell you in his own time. Because after what happened on that mountain, time is the one thing he has plenty of.

Fictional Items I Want | Top 5 Wednesday [#26]

NEW-TOP-5-WEDNESDAY

Hey guys!

Welcome back to another Top 5 Wednesday! This fun weekly meme was created by Lainey over at GingerReadsLainey. If you want to join in the fun and be apart of the #T5W … you can find all the details at the GoodReads page.

This week’s topic is Top 5 Fictional Items I Want.

With every book or series comes specific items that aid the characters in their journeys. Some are useful, some are magical, some are weapons, and some are just plain objects. The 5 I chose today are somewhat all of those things put together! So let’s check them out!

5. Astia Cuff from The Impostor Queen

cuff astias

This seemingly normal copper cuff bracelet allows the Valtia or any other Fire and Ice user to amplify and control their powers to new heights!

4. GravBoots & SlingBlade from Red Rising

Who wouldn’t want boots that can manipulate gravity which allows you to jump to places with very little effort? And you can’t forget Darrow’s famous SlingBlade! That weapon is brutal!!

3. The Kindred from Falling Kingdoms

Although holding all the Kindred is disastrous, I think it would be cool to have the ability to wield all 4 elements to save the day! Obsidian for Earth, Moonstone for Air, for Fire, and for Water!

2. A Stele from The Mortal Instruments

Stele

How cool would it be to be able to draw ruins to aid you in battle or for protection against your foes? I personally like the second from the bottom!

1. Hermoine’s Wand from Harry Potter

Hermoine Wand

Of course I want my favorite character’s wand! Look at ho elegant and pretty it looks! Simple sleek with an awesome design at the handle. Some serious magic has come from this one!!

I hope you enjoyed my Top 5 Wednesday this week. Which fictional items would you want in your arsenal?

Until next time,

City of Fire Awakens | What’s Next? #3

What's-Next

Hey guys!

What’s Next? is fun weekly meme created by Hafsah & Asma over at Icey Books. If you want to join in the fun and be apart of #WhatsNext … you can find all the details at the BLOG page.

Here are a few books I have to (or want to!) read soon. Which first?

City of GlassTo save her mother’s life, Clary must travel to the City of Glass, the ancestral home of the Shadowhunters – never mind that entering the city without permission is against the Law, and breaking the Law could mean death. To make things worse, she learns that Jace does not want her there, and Simon has been thrown in prison by the Shadowhunters, who are deeply suspicious of a vampire who can withstand sunlight.

As Clary uncovers more about her family’s past, she finds an ally in mysterious Shadowhunter Sebastian. With Valentine mustering the full force of his power to destroy all Shadowhunters forever, their only chance to defeat him is to fight alongside their eternal enemies. But can Downworlders and Shadowhunters put aside their hatred to work together? While Jace realizes exactly how much he’s willing to risk for Clary, can she harness her newfound powers to help save the Glass City – whatever the cost?

FireflightThey told David it was impossible—that even the Reckoners had never killed a High Epic. Yet, Steelheart—invincible, immortal, unconquerable—is dead. And he died by David’s hand.

Eliminating Steelheart was supposed to make life more simple. Instead, it only made David realize he has questions. Big ones. And there’s no one in Newcago who can give him the answers he needs.

Babylon Restored, the old borough of Manhattan, has possibilities, though. Ruled by the mysterious High Epic, Regalia, David is sure Babylon Restored will lead him to what he needs to find. And while entering another city oppressed by a High Epic despot is a gamble, David’s willing to risk it. Because killing Steelheart left a hole in David’s heart. A hole where his thirst for vengeance once lived. Somehow, he filled that hole with another Epic—Firefight. And he’s willing to go on a quest darker, and more dangerous even, than the fight against Steelheart to find her, and to get his answers.

Air AwakensA library apprentice, a sorcerer prince, and an unbreakable magic bond…

The Solaris Empire is one conquest away from uniting the continent, and the rare elemental magic sleeping in seventeen-year-old library apprentice Vhalla Yarl could shift the tides of war.

Vhalla has always been taught to fear the Tower of Sorcerers, a mysterious magic society, and has been happy in her quiet world of books. But after she unknowingly saves the life of one of the most powerful sorcerers of them all—the Crown Prince Aldrik—she finds herself enticed into his world. Now she must decide her future: Embrace her sorcery and leave the life she’s known, or eradicate her magic and remain as she’s always been. And with powerful forces lurking in the shadows, Vhalla’s indecision could cost her more than she ever imagined.

So what should I read next? I’m leaning toward City of Glass or Air Awakens… but we’ll see!

Until next time,

Sorry I Don’t Love Them | Top 10 Tuesday [#29]

TOP-10-TUESDAY-NEW

Hey guys!

Welcome back to another Top 10 Tuesday weekly fun on my blog! Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. If you want to join in the fun, hop on over to their blog to see what it’s all about!

This week’s topic is Top 10 Characters Everyone Loves But I Don’t.

I love having unpopular opinions. It makes me unique and sets me apart from other book lovers! So I apologize if I dislike a character you like. It’s nothing personal… it’s just that they suck. Simple.

10. Peeta from the Hunger Games

Peeta

He was a bore to read. Complete snoozefest.

9. Jace from the Mortal Instruments

Jace

Hot as he may be… he was no Alec/Magnus.

8. Rhys from A Court of Thorns and Roses

Rhys

I couldn’t stand how he treated Feyre. It was so uncomfortable to read.

7. Chaol from Throne of Glass

Chaol again

Whine, whine, whine. That’s all he does!

6. Maven from Red Queen

Maven

For reasons I will not disclose.

5. Day from Legend

Day

No sympathies for him. Don’t see how he was the face of a revolution!

4. Draco from Harry Potter

Draco

He was cruel to my favorite character Hermoine. So it’s obvious where my loyalties lie.

3. Cinder from Lunar Chronicles

Cinder

No emotional attachment to her at all… mediocre character.

2. Alina from Shadow and Bone

ALina

Not my favorite heroine. I wouldn’t have minded if the series only revolved around Nikolai and the Darkling!

1. Celaena from Throne of Glass

Celaena

This is pre-Aelin days. She was a mess.

Well there you have it! Top 10Characters Everyone Loves But I Don’t. Do you agree with my choices? What popular characters do you not like?

Until next time,

Sig New

Book Boyfriend Tag | Books at Dawn

Book-Boyfriend-Tag

Hey guys!

I was tagged by Deanna from A Novel Glimpse to do the Fictional Boyfriend Tag which I decided to rename to the Book Boyfriend Tag, because that is what I like to call them. I have many of them. If you haven’t checked out Deanna’s blog please do so now, she tags me for the best tags!

Most Romantic Boyfriend

Baz “Carry On” & Nikolai “Siege and Storm”

I don’t read many romance centered novels, so if I had to choose I would choose these two characters for the simple fact that they would be the most believable romantic types. Plus they are both rich, and money talks! HAHA

Falling Kingdoms

Dark and Moody Bad Boy with a Good Side

Magnus Damora “Falling Kingdoms”

He is extremely dark and moody with morally amobious tendecies. BUT when it comes down to it (especially with Cleo) he has a very good side to him. Why do I always go for the bad boys?

The Bane Chronicles

Paranormal Boyfriend

Magnus Bane “The Mortal Instruments”

He is the high warlock of Brooklyn, super old and wise, sexy as hell, and has the coolest magic powers. What’s not to like?

A Court of Thorns and Roses

Boyfriend You Want to Tame

Tamlin “A Court of Thorns and Roses”

He is the beast of the story. He is rough around the edges, but super sexy and sweet towards Feyre (sometimes). So I most certainly want to tame this beast!

Red Queen

Boy You Friend Zoned

Maven “Red Queen”

He was bae in the beginning. Super sweet and kind. The good boyfriend type. But by the end I had to friend zone him for reasons I’m not allowed to say. (I actually don’t even want him to be my friend either)

Heir of Fire

Your Soul Mate

Rowan “Heir of Fire”

That sexy fae of a man! I know deep down that we are meant to be together. Sorry Aelin, but you’re just the appetizer! HAHA

Six of Crows

Boyfriend You Want to Elope With

Kaz Brekker “Six of Crows”

Yeah that’s right. Another bad boy. And this time I want to elope with him, because if Inej finds out I wouldn’t be surprise if she sneaks up and slits my throat.

Red Rising

Boyfriend You’d Venture Anywhere With

Darrow of Lykos “Red Rising”

I would go across the galaxy and back if Darrow was at my side. One, for the protection and two, because of his lyrical way of speaking! *swoons*

City of Bones

Boyfriend You’d Want to Be Stranded on a Deserted Island With

Alec Lightwood “The Mortal Instruments”

Not because he is the second half of one of my OTP’s, and not because he is portrayed by the sexy Matthew Daddario on the TV show. BUT because he has an extensive knowledge in survival, and I do not. (Now if it is Matthew with me on this island, there will be touching involved HAHA)

Gathering Darkness

Most Badass Boyfriend

Ashur Cortas “Gathering Darkness”

Due to spoilers I can’t really explain this one. BUT if you can achieve what he does in this series then you’re automatically a badass bae!

I TAG YOU

Anticipated March 2016 Releases

Anticipated-Releases-Red

Hey guys!

Every month I post the books that I’m most excited about that are going to be released. For March I’m bringing you two  exciting releases. Let’s check them out:

Burning Glass by Kathryn Purdie

Release Date: March 1st, 2016

Burning GlassSonya was born with the rare gift to feel what those around her feel—both physically and emotionally—a gift she’s kept hidden from the empire for seventeen long years. After a reckless mistake wipes out all the other girls with similar abilities, Sonya is hauled off to the palace and forced to serve the emperor as his sovereign Auraseer.

Tasked with sensing the intentions of would-be assassins, Sonya is under constant pressure to protect the emperor. One mistake, one small failure, will cost her own life and the lives of the few people left in the world who still trust her.

But Sonya’s power is untamed and reckless, her feelings easily usurped, and she sometimes can’t decipher when other people’s impulses end and her own begin. In a palace full of warring emotions and looming darkness, Sonya fears that the biggest danger to the empire may be herself.

As she struggles to wrangle her abilities, Sonya seeks refuge in her tenuous alliances with the volatile Emperor Valko and his idealistic younger brother, Anton, the crown prince. But when threats of revolution pit the two brothers against each other, Sonya must choose which brother to trust—and which to betray.

A Study in Charlotte by Brittany Cavallaro

Release Date: March 1st, 2016

A Study in CharlotteThe last thing sixteen-year-old Jamie Watson–writer and great-great-grandson of the John Watson–wants is a rugby scholarship to Sherringford, a Connecticut prep school just an hour away from his estranged father. But that’s not the only complication: Sherringford is also home to Charlotte Holmes, the famous detective’s enigmatic, fiercely independent great-great-granddaughter, who’s inherited not just his genius but also his vices, volatile temperament, and expertly hidden vulnerability. Charlotte has been the object of his fascination for as long as he can remember–but from the moment they meet, there’s a tense energy between them, and they seem more destined to be rivals than anything else.

Then a Sherringford student dies under suspicious circumstances ripped straight from the most terrifying of the Holmes stories, and Jamie and Charlotte become the prime suspects. Convinced they’re being framed, they must race against the police to conduct their own investigation. As danger mounts, it becomes clear that nowhere is safe and the only people they can trust are each other.

Siren’s Song by Mary Weber

Release Date: March 1st, 2016

Siren's SongNym and Draewulf prepare to face off in a battle destined to destroy more lives than it saves.

With the loss of Tulla still fresh in mind, Rasha’s fate unknown, and Lord Myles taken over by the dark ability, Nym and the few Bron soldiers rush to warn Cashlin’s queen. Only to discover it may already be too late for the monarch and her eerie kingdom. As the Luminescents are sifting through Nym’s past memories and the queen is reading into her future, Nym is given a choice of how to defeat Draewulf, but the cost may be more than she can bear. And even then there are no guarantees.

With that reality burrowing into her bones—along with the guilt of the lives she will sacrifice—Nym returns to her homeland of Faelen to raise an army of peasants through promises of freedom. But when the few friends she has left, along with the world and citizens she loves, are staring down the face of a monster and his undead army, will Nym summon every element her blood is capable of controlling . . . or surrender to a different strength—one of sacrifice?

Because in the end, death may be more merciful for them all.

Lady Midnight by Cassandra Clare

Release Date: March 8th, 2016

Lady MidnightLos Angeles. It’s been five years since the events of the Mortal Instruments when Nephilim stood poised on the brink of oblivion and Shadowhunter Emma Carstairs lost her parents. After the blood and violence she witnessed as a child, Emma has dedicated her life to to discovering exactly what it was that killed her parents and getting her revenge.

Raised in the Los Angeles Institute with the Blackthorn family, Emma is paired as a parabatai with her best friend, Julian Blackthorn. A series of murders in the city catch her attention — they seem to have the same characteristics as the deaths of her parents. Could the murderer be the same person? And her attention isn’t the only one caught: someone has been murdering Downworlders as well. The Fair Folk make a deal with the Institute: if the Blackthorns and Emma will investigate the killings, they’ll return Mark Blackthorn to his home. The catch: they have only two weeks to find the killers. Otherwise it’s open war between faeries and Nephilim.

The Shadowhunters of the Institute must race against time to catch the killers, even as they begin to suspect the involvement of those closest to them. At the same time, Emma is falling in love with the one person in the world she’s absolutely forbidden by Shadowhunter Law to love. Set against the glittering backdrop of present-day Los Angeles, Emma must learn to trust her head and her heart as she investigates a demonic plot that stretches from the warlock-run nightclubs of the Sunset Strip to the enchanted sea that pounds the beaches of Santa Monica.

The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner

Release Date: March 9th, 2016

The Serpent KingDillard Early, Jr., Travis Bohannon and Lydia Blankenship are three friends from different walks of life who have one thing in common: none of them seem to fit the mold in rural Tennessee’s Forrestville High. Dill has always been branded as an outsider due to his family heritage as snake handlers and poison drinkers, an essential part of their Pentecostal faith. But after his father is sent to prison for sexual abuse of a young parishioner, Dill and his mother become real pariahs. His only two friends are Travis, a gentle giant who works at his family’s lumberyard and is obsessed with a Game of Thrones-like fantasy series (much to his alcoholic father’s chagrin); and Lydia, who runs a popular fashion blog that’s part Tavi Gevinson and part Angela Chase, and is actively plotting her escape from Redneckville, Tennessee.
As the three friends begin their senior year, it becomes clear that they won’t all be getting to start a promising new life after graduation. How they deal with their diverging paths could cause the end of their friendship. Until a shattering act of random violence forces Dill to wrestle with his dark legacy and find a way into the light of a future worth living.

Let me know if you guys are looking forward to any of these books this month! I really can’t wait to get my hands on them.

Until next time,
