The Good
- This graphic novel hosts a bunch of main characters into the mix. It follows 6 troubled/gifted teenagers as they as thrust into this new boarding school from hell. (Not literally hell though). I thought each character was unique and had their own voice. They reacted to situations appropriately due to their character traits and stayed true to themselves. My personal favorites were Jun and Zoe!
- I thought the plot was very unique. My interest was always at it’s peak from beginning to end. There is still so much more to discover in the future volumes. Especially WHY this kind of school even exists and what their purpose is with these kids.
- Another great point to Morning Glories Vol 1 is the artwork. I thought it was well done and realistic to teenage proportions. And the fact that it includes 2 PoC main characters is awesome to see visually as well.
The Bad
- There wasn’t too much that disappointed me with this volume other then the bland looking cover. But it’s the same style for all the volumes… so I guess that is what worked the best!

The Good
- Diving into Morning Glories Vol 2, we finally get some back story of all the characters. We find out how they got to their current point in life and the driving factors that cause them to do what they do. With all the heavy character growth in this volume, it doesn’t take away from driving the plot forward which was nice.
- I also quite enjoyed the writing a little more this time around. Maybe because it is starting to sound more authentic coming from the characters that makes it more believable for me.
- And of course Eisma doesn’t disappoint with his amazing artwork.
The Bad
- The plot / world is getting a bit dry for me. Although the plot is moving forward, I still feel like I’m missing some critical information. My who, what, when, where and why censor is going crazy with how little information we got this time around. I know this volume was a character growth storyline, I just wish my curiosity got a little sated this time around. I guess there is always Volume 3!
So if you guys are looking for a thrillingย new graphic novel to read, then I highly suggest you pick this one up. You’re in for a wild ride!
