The Desert Island Book Tag | Books at Dawn

The-Desert-Island-Book-Tag

Hey guys!

I was tagged by the lovely Deanna over at A Novel Glimpse to do The Desert Island Book Tag! As I would rather vacation in a city rather then a beach most of the time, this tag brought back all the fun memories I had of a cruise I took around the Caribbean a couple years back with my friends.

So thanks again Deanna for the tag!

Water: a book you can simply cannot live without.

I now have 2 all time favorite series that I cannot live without! They are none other then Falling Kingdoms by Morgan Rhodes, and Red Rising by Pierce Brown.

Food: a book that is a close second on your favorites list.

If I could have chosen my two favorite fantasies and two of my favorite contemporaries it would be these ones I’ve listed here and for the last question. I cannot live without these four books! Including Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli and The Five Stages of Andrew Brawley by Shaun David Hutchinson!

Shelter: a book that makes you feel at home and safe.

The Outsiders

I’ll always have a soft spot for The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. This book brings back so many childhood memories involving reading!

Flare gun: a book you would recommend to a person that doesn’t read.

The Serpent King

The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner has a lot to offer, and I think non-readers would enjoy this one just as much as I did!

Fire-matches: a book that warms your heart.

Everything, Everything

Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon was such a heartwarming and cute adventure of a girl discovering the world for the first time!

Compass: a book that directed you towards your love of reading.

Twilight

I’m not going to lie and say Harry Potter like everyone else in my generation because I’m not ashamed to say Twilight by Stephenie Meyer ignited my love for reading! I zoomed through all four books and have not looked back since!

That’s that. Now if I was really stuck on a deserted island I would not be thinking about books. I’d be freaking out about where I’m going to get clean underwear! (I know… priorities).

Dashing Through the Snow | TAG

Dashing-Through-the-Snow-Book-Tag

Hey guys!

Dashing Through the Snow Tag was created by Astra @ A Strangers Guide To Novels. And I was tagged by quite a few people, so bare with me! Thank you Kat from The Impossible Girl Blog, Deanna from A Novel Glimpse, Joey from Thoughts and Afterthoughts, Trisha Ann from The Bookgasm Blog, and Lois from My Midnight Musing.

Name a book you’d like to see under your Christmas tree?

I’ve asked for quite a number of books this Christmas, so any of the ones above would be lovely to have under my Christmas this year!

A book you’ll be reading during the Christmas season?

Frozen Tides and Why Not Me? will be my Christmas reads this year, as I have already started both of them!

Favorite Christmas movie?

Two of the best Christmas/holiday movies ever made!

Do you like snow?

I love snow! It’s an amazing sight to behold. Especially when you wake up in the morning and see a vast expanse of white fields and streets of untouched snow from the overnight fall.

It may be tough to get through, but it sets the mood for cozy nights in watching movies and cuddling with tea and blankets!

Name a character you would like to spend Christmas day with?

It comes as no surprise who I am going to choose. He may not be the warmest character in the world, but I know deep down he has a romantic bone in his body. It’s none other then Magnus Damora from Falling Kingdoms!

Prince Magnus

To give or to receive?

I know most people say giving is better then receiving, and I agree with that 100%, but I like to receive just as much.

I never usually tell people what I want for Christmas. This frustrates them to no end, but I like thoughtful gifts. If you know me, then you’ll know what I will enjoy.

What fictional place would you like to spend Christmas at?

hogwarts-christmas

Hogwarts/Hogsmeade! How perfect would that Christmas be? I mean come on. Nothing screams Christmas more then Harry Potter!!

Fondest Christmas memory?

Every year I try to make fond memories during Christmas! But I guess my fondest memory would have to be the last Christmas that was just me, my parents, and my sister. The last Christmas we had as just the four of us before my sister married and had kids.

I miss the good ol’ days where I would wake everyone up to open presents at 6 in the morning!

Can you say “Christmas tree” ten times fast in a row (while pronouncing them correctly)?

Yes. It’s not that hard.

Thanks for stopping by to this great holiday themed tag! Hope you enjoyed my answers as well.

Until next time,

Sig 4

Real Neat Blog Award

Real-Neat-Blog-AwardHey guys!

I was nominated by the lovely Flo over @ Flowless Books for the Real Neat Blog Award. I want to take the time to thank her for the nomination and to say how wonderful she is. Seriously. You guys should go check her out right now. I’m not even joking, go do it!

The rules :

  • Thank and link the blogger who nominated you.
  • Answer the 7 questions the nomination has provided.
  • Nominate 7 other bloggers.
  • Create 7 questions for your nominees

What is your 2015 favorite read so far ?

Queen of ShadowsEnough said. 5 Stars.

Which book deserves more hype in your opinion ?

Lark RisingI feel like not many people are reading this AMAZING series. The second book just came out and deserves way more hype! I feel like the publisher is not doing a very good job.

What is the most original book you read ?

Everything, EverythingEverything about this book is original. From the disease, to the characters, to the way the story was written. One of my favorites of the year!

Which book would you want to see on screen (TV or movie) ?

Falling KingdomsHands down the ONLY series I want to see on TV (not movie) is the Falling Kingdoms series by Morgan Rhodes. It would make such great TV. If you’ve read this book then you already know!

Book boyfriend/girlfriend ?

Saga Vol.2I went in a different direction this time. I choose Marko from the Saga graphic novel to be my book boyfriend. He is absolutely perfect and knows how to treat his loved ones!

What is your favorite manga ?

Sailor Moon Vol.1 Death Note Vol.1

It’s a tie between these two. For different reasons both are my all time favorite mangas EVER!

Tell me one thing about you.

Only one? Well I have never been in love before. I know what love feels like from friends and family, but I have never loved someone so deeply to want to be with them for life. I’ve had many relationships in the past but none have ever evoked the strongest emotion of love.

I wonder if I will ever get the chance to experience it. I think the problem lies within myself and it is something I have to work through before I can share my life with someone.

Kinda sappy right? Sorry… sometimes I just want to be real with you guys. My life isn’t just filled with books!

My Questions

You’ve committed a crime and are going to jail for life. The judge allows you to bring three books with you and those are the only three books you’ll be reading for the rest of your life. Which three are they?

You’ve been in a relationship with your man/women and things are getting serious, but out of the blue they ask you to choose them or your books. Which do you choose and why?

You’re being held at gun point but the shooter says he will set you free if you burn three of your books. Which three would you choose?

There is a new law coming into effect. It bans (insert genre here) genre from ever being read/written again. Which genre would you choose?

With wanting more diversity in books nowadays, what is one aspect you believe should be represented more and why?

Your favorite author is going to call you for a once in a lifetime chance to talk. You can only ask them one question. Who is the author and what is the question? Why?

Hero, Assassin, or Prince/Princess? You can only pick one. Which do you choose to be in a story with you as the main character?

I hope you enjoyed my answers to these lovely questions. And if you have seen my questions before, you are right! I have used them in the past because they are such good questions that I want all my followers the chance to answer. That’s why I tag new people every time I ask them!

Until next time,

Sig New

Diverse Characters | Top 5 Wednesday [13]

Top-5-WednesdayHey guys!

Welcome back to another Top 5 Wednesday! This fun weekly meme was created by Lainey over at GingerReadsLainey. If you want to join in the fun and be apart of the #T5W … you can find all the details at the GoodReads page.

This week’s topic is Top 5 Diverse Characters.

I can’t say enough how important it is to have diverse characters in books and how much more effort and work needs to be put into accomplishing this task. No more fair haired, blue eyed, white heroes and heroines. Sure they are fine and dandy… but I’m tired reading about them. Give us heroes/heroines of color, or ones who are LGBTQ centered. And no it doesn’t count as being diverse if they are the supporting character to the white protagonist. So here is my list of favorite diverse characters and what makes them diverse!

5. Nehemia from the Throne of Glass Series

Nehemia Nehemia2

Nehemia is black. She is powerful, elegant, intelligent and beautiful. Have I mentioned that she is also a princess?

4. June Iparis from the Legend Trilogy

June June

June is described as being Native American + other ethnicities. She’s a a strong soldier, and firm leader, and a kickass heroine.

3. Simon and Bram from Simon Vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda

Simon

Simon is a gay white kid and Bram is a gay black kid. If this book were around when I was in high school I would have felt better about myself the issues I had to go through. This was a perfect coming of age story!

2. Magnus Bane from The Mortal Instruments Series

Magnus Magnus2

An Asian bisexual warlock. How cool and sexy is that! I don’t need to say more about him since he is a lot of people’s beloved character.

1. Madeline from Everything Everything

Everything, Everything

I tried looking everywhere for fanart of Madeline, but with no luck. She is mixed race Black and Asian with a somewhat rare health issue. You guys should read her story, it’s a cute one!

I hope you enjoyed my Top 5 Wednesday this week. As the years go on, I hope that more and more books with have diverse characters as their main protagonists. This needs to be the new normal!

Until next time,

Sig New

Title Font Covers | Top 5 Wednesday [11]

Top-5-WednesdayHey guys!

Welcome back to another Top 5 Wednesday! This fun weekly meme was created by Lainey over at GingerReadsLainey. If you want to join in the fun and be apart of the #T5W … you can find all the details at the GoodReads page.

This week’s topic is Top 5 Title Font Covers.

Every once and a while you will come across a book with some really awesome title font. And no I’m not talking about the generic fonts you can find on Microsoft Word. I’m talking unique and visually appealing fonts, fonts that match the tone and setting of the book! So without further ado, here is my list!

5. Emmy & Oliver by Robin Benway

Emmy and OliverSimply beautiful.

4. Splintered by A.G. Howard

SplinteredWhimsical and gothic.

3. The Orphan Queen by Jodi Meadows

The Orphan QueenElegant and stunning.

2. Everything Everything by Nicola Yoon

Everything, EverythingFun and creative.

1. Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo

Shadow and BoneDark and magical.
