The Good

  • The cover is very pleasing to the eyes. The colors used work so well together, and the feather adds a bit of mystery to the mind, begging what it has to do with the story!
  • I love the concept of the story, especially the characters. They are reincarnated gods who are only on earth every 90 years to parish 2 years after that. They are vivid, cool, complex, and troubled. I especially loved Luci! She resembled David Bowie to a tee.
  • The writing and dialogue were also very well done. At times I may have got confused with the story progress, but the interactions between the characters were spot on!
  • And finally the artwork. Pure perfection. Everything about it from the character designs, the bright colors, and the wide variety of diversity among the cast of characters was beautifully done. My favorite aspect of the graphic novel!

The Bad

  • The plot. Although it was a unique concept, I was constantly confused with it. And I know I’m not the only one who feels that way. Half the time I didn’t quite get what was going on. But that ending though! WOW.
  • I felt the world was over all boring. It was just a simple backdrop of modern day London. Nothing too exciting. But I guess I understand that it focuses more on character and story telling. I’m just hoping for something more to stand out in the next volume!

COVER 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟                    PLOT 🌟🌟🌟🌟

CHARACTERS 🌟🌟🌟🌟          ARTWORK 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

WRITING 🌟🌟🌟🌟             WORLD 🌟🌟🌟

The Good

  • Again we have a fantastic cover keeping with the overall mystery of the book. This time swapping out the lilacs for a more deeper purple. A++
  • We are introduced to new characters and gods this time around. My favorite in this volume would have to be Inanna. I love his look, his demeanor, and his over all personality towards the main character. And the fact that he resembles Prince is alos a major plus!
  • The artwork stays true to the first volume. Character design is on point and the one chapter with all those vivid colors really engrosses your imagination and makes your vision all the more pleasant.

The Bad

  • Again, the plot is still a bit confusing to me. The story is progressing in a quick manner, but it still leaves much to be desired. I do like the little plot twist with the 13th god being introduced though!
  • And the world… it hasn’t changed. It is still in the basic backdrop of modern day London. What I really want to see is something more fantastical since we are dealing with reincarnated gods. Here’s hoping for something different in volume 3!

Ok, that’s it. Let me know what you guys thought of The Wicked + The Divine Volume 1: The Faust Act, and The Wicked + The Divine Volume 2: Fandemonium by Kieron Gillen and Artwork by Jamie McKelvie. I would love to hear your opinions as well!

Until next time,

Author 106Kieron Gillen is a comic book writer and former media journalist.

His efforts are divided between arty credible ones which will make girls nod sagely and find him more attractive and things with zombies and machine-guns. It’s something about the duality of man. His work which he’s most closely associated with is Phonogram, which he produced with Jamie McKelvie and has been received with the correct mixture of rapture and bemusement. This has been joined by their celebrated run on YOUNG AVENGERS and their current actual-sales-hit-WTF? THE WICKED + THE DIVINE.

Jamie McKelvieJamie McKelvie is an award-winning artist and writer best known for his creator-owned comic series THE WICKED + THE DIVINE, PHONOGRAM (both with writer Kieron Gillen) and SUBURBAN GLAMOUR. He has worked for Marvel on YOUNG AVENGERS, CAPTAIN MARVEL, and MS MARVEL.
THE WICKED + THE DIVINE has been optioned by Universal to be adapted as a TV series.
He has also produced artwork for bands such as CHVRCHES and TEGAN & SARA.
