They call him father, liberator, warlord, Reaper. But he feels a boy as he falls toward the pale blue planet, his armor red, his army vast, his heart heavy. It is the tenth year of war and the thirty-second of his life.

A decade ago, Darrow was the hero of the revolution he believed would break the chains of the Society. But the Rising has shattered everything: Instead of peace and freedom, it has brought endless war. Now he must risk everything he has fought for on one last desperate mission. Darrow still believes he can save everyone, but can he save himself?

And throughout the worlds, other destinies entwine with Darrow’s to change his fate forever:

A young Red girl flees tragedy in her refugee camp and achieves for herself a new life she could never have imagined.

An ex-soldier broken by grief is forced to steal the most valuable thing in the galaxy—or pay with his life.

And Lysander au Lune, the heir in exile to the sovereign, wanders the stars with his mentor, Cassius, haunted by the loss of the world that Darrow transformed, and dreaming of what will rise from its ashes.

The Review

Face-Happy

Iron Gold by Pierce Brown is his newest installment in the Red Rising series. 10 years after the end of the last book we get to see the after effects of a war torn galaxy in the midst of repairing itself. Darrow’s won the war, but the fights are far from over. With new characters, multiple POV’s and new places of the universe to explore, Brown takes his fans on another intergalactic journey!

By the end of book three, I couldn’t be any more in love with this series and these characters. Everything about the first trilogy was spectacular, so I couldn’t wait to dive in for more amazing stories from this universe.

Brown stays true to his writing and has created another masterpiece of science fiction! He’s expanded on the story, the world, the characters, and the scope of this war.

Darrow and Mustang are now the rulers of their half of the galaxy. Along with our favorites from the first trilogy, they are now having to deal with the repercussions of their past actions and they must try to rebuild their galaxy. With four POV’s, Iron Gold has a lot to offer.

I loved Lyria’s POV the most. She is a red that was rescued from the Martian mines after the war and promised many things, sadly none have been delivered to help her family and tribe. She was such a force to be reckon with in Iron Gold. She’s feisty, strong, and doesn’t back down from what she believes is right.

My only tiff is that it felt like a set up for something much bigger. I mean, yes it is like a first book in a new trilogy, but maybe I was just expecting more after the EPIC level that Morning Star was on.

I see bigger and better things on the horizon, and the ending of Iron Gold sets up what will be a stellar sequel coming our way soon!

Now he lives Los Angeles, where he scribbles tales of spaceships, wizards, ghouls, and most things old or bizarre.

  1. I loved this installment but I share the same sentiment, after the EPICNESS that was Morning Star…I kinda was thinking we would start off just as explosive lol. Then again this book was all about stripping Darrow & the society down, I’m hoping with that ending that old Darrow is back to play haha! 🙂

  2. I totally hear you on expecting a bit higher stakes or more epic developments in Iron Gold. It felt like some kind of set up for something bigger to me as well, but, like you, I really enjoyed reading it. This series just keeps on being really amazing. I am so happy the new book will be out this year already ❤

  3. I can’t believe I’m admitting this but I’ve still not read Morning Star! I keep meaning to get to it, but it’s somehow got lost in the shuffle of everything else that’s still waiting to be read. I’m sorry to hear that the stakes in Iron Gold weren’t as high as they were in Morning Star, but hopefully, this is just the set up of things to come in the other installments.
