#FrenzyPresents HCC Frenzy Fall Preview | Event Recap

hcc frenzy

Hey Bookworms!

This past weekend I had the amazing opportunity to attend HCC Frenzy’s (HarperCollins Canada) Fall Preview event filled with books, yummy snacks, and of course the special author guests: Becky Albertalli, Angie Thomas, and Julie Murphy!

This is my second time attending one of their previews and I can say by far that this one was the best yet! There is nothing like spending an afternoon with your book peeps and sharing the love of books with all.

The Preview

To start off the preview we jumped right into their contemporaries they have releasing over the next couple months:

Top Ten by Katie Cotugno

Kat and Meg Conquer the World by Anna Priemaza

Here We Are Now by Jasmine Warga **

Love, Life and the List by Kasie West

They Both Die At the End by Adam Silvera **

Three Sides of a Heart by Various Authors **

Release by Patrick Ness **

Here We Are Now is Jasmine Warga’s second novel. I loved her first one, My Heart and Other Black Holes. It was so heart breaking and beautiful. Here’s hoping her second one is just the same!

I am a die hard fan of Adam Silvera. So naturally I have already read They Both Die at the End this past summer. Grab your tissues for this one because even the title says it all, it will still hit you hard in the feels and leave you a mess forever.

Three Sides of a Heart is an upcoming short story anthology by some of contemporaries best writers! It is all about one of my favorite tropes of all time: LOVE TRIANGLES! There is a story in here for everyone, from contemporary, to fantasy, to sci-fi. I can’t wait!

Lastly, I also recently finished Release and it messed with my feels let me tell you! It was so raw and real. I went through similar struggles when I was a teen in terms of the actually act of sexual intercourse (I know…TMI). But I connected with the MC more because of it. GO READ THIS ONE if your a Patrick Ness fan for sure!

Then we jumped into their one single mystery/thriller YA they have releasing. The synopsis for this one was so intriguing, you guys have to check it out:

This Darkness Mine

This Darkness Mine by Mindy McGinnis

Finally we jumped right into my favorite genres of ALL TIME, Fantasy and Sci-fi. Let me tell you guys, they have some really exciting titles coming your way soon:

Before She Ignites by Jodi Meadows **

One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake **

The Glass Spare by Lauren DeStefano

Zenith by Sasha Alsberg & Lindsay Cummings

I’ve actually already read the ARC of Before She Ignites not too long ago and it was so good! If you love dragons, Hufflepuff MC’s and a new, creative world then you will love this one!

One Dark Throne is the sequel to last year’s Three Dark Crowns. I can’t wait to dive back into this world and see all the shit that will go down. The battle has begun, which queen will come out on top??

The Authors

Here comes the best part! I am still reeling from the excitement and shock that I got to meet some of my favorite authors ever!! Their books hold special places in my heart whether it was because they were important for me, or important for the world.

Angie Thomas

Angie Thomas is the debut author of The Hate U Give; one of the most important books of our time right now. Angie is such a humble human being. She was so sweet and down to earth. She is a huge fan of hip hop; so much so that it heavily influences her work. If you guys haven’t read or gone out and purchased yourself a copy of her book, please do. You won’t regret it!

Becky Albertalli

Becky Albertalli, author of Simon Vs. the Homo Sapiens Agenda and The Upside of Unrequited was also there. When I say that this was a dream come true, that would be an understatement. Simon will be forever my favorite gay book. It was the story I wish was around when I was in high school and going through the coming out process to my friends and family. It is such a sweet story about a budding relationship and all the messy, beautiful things that come along with it. Becky is such a sweetheart. I was so nervous but she made me feel very comfortable. I feel really lucky to have met her!

The ARC’s

2017 Fall ARCS

It wouldn’t be a Frenzy event if we didn’t get to take home some ARC’s! Here was what was in my swag bag:

Release by Patrick Ness

One Dark Throne by Kendare Blake

They Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera

The Last Namsara by Kristin Ciccarelli

Zenith by Sasha Alsberg & Lindsay Cummings

Phew… hopefully you stuck around with me until the end. I know that was a bit of a doozy. Thanks again to Ashley and the team at HCC Frenzy for hosting and inviting me to the event. These are my favorite times of year and I am so happy and grateful to get to spend them with my book peeps!

Until next time,
