Hey guys!
I was tagged by Nicole from Sorry I’m Booked to do the Book Buying Habits Tag. Go check her blog, it’s awesome!
After reading the questions, you guys are definitely going to get a glimpse into my book buying world and all my crazy habits that go along with it. So don’t judge me after ok?
The Questions
Where do you buy your books from?
I have several different place where I like to purchase my books from:
- Indigo/Chapters (Biggest Canadian Bookstore)
- BMV Used Books
- BookOutlet.ca
- Amazon.ca
- BookDepository.com
Do you ever pre-order books and if so do you do this in store or online?
I occasionally pre-order books. If the pre-order price is lower then the selling price, or the author is doing pre-order goodies. If that’s the case, I usually pre-order online!
On average, how many books do you buy a month?
This is circumstantial. It can be anywhere from 2-10 books in a month depending on what’s getting released that month or if I find good deals in store/online!
Do you use your local library?
Confession time… I don’t even have a library card. I know I know, shame on me. I just don’t really understand how libraries work with wait listing and such. I usually just go out and buy the book if I want to read it…
What is your opinion on library books?
I think they’re great for some people… but just not for me. I’m a slow reader and I know it gives you two weeks to read and return them, but I just don’t like time constraints like those.
How do you feel about second hand books?
I love second hand books. What someone else doesn’t want anymore could become my next favorite read! I frequent my local used books store monthly!
Do you keep your TBR pile on your main bookshelves or no?
Yes. I have two TBR shelves in my room. One is for new releases or books that I want to read ASAP, and the other is for my ARC’s that need to read and reviewed for publishers.
Do you plan to read all of the books you own?
In a perfect world yes. But will it likely happen… probably not. If I don’t get to the books that I own, over time I might lose interest and just pass them on to friends, fellow bloggers, used book stores, or to my local library!
What do you do with books you feel you will never read/did not enjoy?
Like I said up above, I usually give them away or donate them. In hopes someone else might like them more!
Have you ever donated books?
Yes. Many a times.
Have you ever been on a book buying ban?
I think those are silly. I understand the point behind them… but I know it could never work for me so I don’t even bother!
Do you feel that you buy too many books?
To me, no. I love reading and I love books. I don’t think I could ever have enough. But to others (ex. parents and friends), yes I probably do.
Well there you have it. All my dirty little book buying habits for you all to read. I had a lot of fun revealing some of these and I hope you had fun reading them!

Until next time,
This was so interesting to read! I love my e-library. I’ve been able to read so many more books using it. I hope you get your library system figured out someday! 😉

this is such a good tag and your answers were so interesting. I’m a slow reader and I always end up renewing my library books (even though I can check them out from at least a month) I would love to buy all my books but there are no bookshops that sell books at a reasonable price around my area so I buy most of my books online. I love book depository but I’ve been looking at the book outlet and I added 6 books to my cart and came out with a total of $29.49 (nz dollars) which is amazingly cheap, I haven’t ordered anything off there yet but I’m not sure exactly how much shipping will cost, because I’ve previously ordered books off Amazon and it cost me $40 for shipping, it cost me $80 (including shipping) to get two books, I hope the book outlet isn’t like that.

Yeah shipping can get a bit pricey! Book Depository is awesome for free shipping though 😀

Yea, I don’t like constraints on my reading either, which is why I don’t often borrow from the library.

I’m glad I’m not the only one then 😛
I feel guilty not utilizing my local library!

Oh no. This is such a shameful tag for me, mainly, because I feel like I buy TOO MANY books. (I’m still figuring out if that’s a good or bad thing, though.) But all the same, thank you for remembering me, Jesse! Fabulous post! 😀

This is an awesome tag! Thanks for tagging me! 🙂
Library waiting lists are kind of lame, especially on e-books! Even with e-books my library has a waiting list if someone has checked out that e-book. I find that so weird, since it’s an e-book LOL! I can understand a physical book, because some libraries don’t buy a ton of copies of them.
Last year I got addicted to buying second hand books. It’s nice getting really awesome books for so cheap.

I’d honestly rather just buy the book instead of using the library. I feel like that’s blasphemous to say though HAHA

Haha, yeah. I like to mostly just check out the books that I don’t know for sure if I will like it or not. That way if I end up not liking it, at least I didn’t waste the money. And if I do end up liking it, then I can just go buy it to add to my collection.

I tend to just get the ebook if I want to try it out 😛
