The Hype is Too Much (Freebie) | Top 10 Tuesday [24]

Top 10 Tuesday

Hey guys!

Welcome back to another Top 10 Tuesday weekly fun on my blog! Top Ten Tuesday is an original feature/weekly meme created at The Broke and the Bookish. If you want to join in the fun, hop on over to their blog to see what it’s all about!

This week’s topic is Top 10 Books Where the Hype is Too Much (Freebie).

This week’s topic is a freebie where we get to choose our own topic. I have decided to talk about the books I feel are receiving too much hype. Now hype can either be a good thing or a negative thing. For me when a book is too hyped it turns me off from reading it right away. Some examples of this would be Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard and Winter by Marissa Meyer. I didn’t read Red Queen until 6 months after its release when the hyped died down, and I still have yet to read Winter the conclusion to The Lunar Chronicles.

What is your take on the subject? And here are the 10 books that are receiving too much hype for 2016!

10. The Shadow Queen by C.J. Redwine

9. A Gathering Darkness by V.E. Schwab

8. The Crown’s Game by Evelyn Skye

7. Passenger by Alexandra Bracken

Well there you have it! Top 10 Books Where the Hype is Too Much (Freebie). Do you agree with my choices? What books coming out in 2016 do you think are receiving too much hype?

Until next time,

  1. A lot of hype around books definitely frustrates me. While it does make me more aware of potentially great books that are being released, it also makes me more hesitant to read them because I know that my expectations will be SKY HIGH. Most of the time I’m pretty behind on reading new books, so by the time I actually get around to reading them a lot of time has passed and some of the hype has died down, which helps. Still, the hype monster is a big problem!

      1. well… Chaol only hooked up with Celaena so she could get ready for Rowan… (it that too mean?!). lol. I don’t feel like she dropped Chaol, he was just not as significant to Aelin as he was on book 2… but neither was Dorian…

  2. I’m currently reading The Shadow Queen, and I already finished Glass Sword months ago. I definitely agree with you that these books get a lot of hype. The Crown’s Game is my most anticipated fantasy book this year. 🙂

  3. There are quite a few books on your list in actually really excited for. Glass Sword and A Court of Mist and Fury are two of them. Red Queen was in my top 10 for books I read in 2015 if not the top of the list and ACOTAR I read this month and absolutely loved. I never would have read those books if they hadn’t been hyped up so I have to disagree with you. I don’t read reviews or see what people are saying about books, I just write down the titles of books everyone is talking about and decide for myself. As for Heartless by Marissa Meyer, that’s probably my most anticipated book of 2016 because I loved The Lunar Chronicles and it’s Alice in Wonderland based which is one of my all time favorite stories so I’m glad people are getting excited about it.

    1. Hype does different things to different people. Sometimes it’s a little over bearing. Especially with Red Queen last year. That book was marketed everywhere. Don’t get me wrong, I quite enjoyed it. And I’m not saying any of the books on my list are bad, I just see them everywhere on people’s blogs.

      1. Okay, I guess I interpreted your post a little differently than it was intended. Then I agree to some degree lol sometimes it’s obnoxious to see the same books talked about all the time. I try to very what I talk about to not overload people.

    1. I agree, that’s one story I’m excited about. Raven Cycle series is amazing. I got bored with her other series though. Sorry to keep the hype up for this series Nicholas, lol. But it’s worth it.

  4. I love this topic. I definitely think hype can be both good and bad because it makes me excited but also nervous because I feel like I go into the book with high expectations only to end up disappointed. I am guilty for over-hyping the Raven King but there’s so much at stake in this book I can’t not be excited/terrified to see how things play out. 🙂

  5. I’m highly anticipating for The Court Of Mist And Fury and The Crown’s Game. I’ve read Truthwitch and It was truly fantastic! Passengers was good to read but it didn’t lived up to the hype and I had high expectations for it.

  6. Too much hype can definitely kill my interest on a book for me. I became skeptical about reading Red Queen and Passenger because of its hype, and I had really low expectations when reading Cinder because of all the hype.

  7. I tend to put off books when they’re really hyped because I’m so paranoid that I’ll just hate them because of the hype. I have way too many of these books on my TBR. I’m really looking forward to reading Lady Midnight but I’m pretty sure that I’ll be disappointed when I do XD

  8. Hype is such a mood killer, especially once I read the book and it’s nowhere near what I imagined it to be. Regardless, I am so psyched for The Raven King to drop, I just need to know it ends well for everyone (highly unlikely). Other books that got a lot of hype are The Winner’s Kiss (eek! I’m not ready!) and the Girl From Everywhere.
