“Dumb Dumb” | Spotlight Saturday [4]

Spotlight SaturdayHey guys!

Spotlight Saturday is a weekly feature, created by Josie at Josie’s Book Corner, dedicated to spotlighting and pinpointing some of the things over the week that have caught my attention more than usual, things I’ve particularly loved, etc.

So now that you guys know what it’s all about, how about you join in the fun and hop on over to Josie’s Book Corner and check out how to do so~

Spotlight BloggerThis month has been overwhelming me and it’s only been 11 days. But one fantastic blogger popped up this week that I would like to spotlight. It is none other then Flo from FlowlessBooks!

I’ve been following her blog for a little while now but it isn’t until recently that I found out how similar we are with interests! We share a love for music and dance, meaning we can’t live with out it. We also watch pretty much all the same TV shows. So with the upcoming Fall 2015 season coming, I’m interested to read her thoughts on the shows!

Aside from that, we also read similar books. So I enjoy her reviews, and other bookish tags and challenges! So you guys have to take the time to go visit her blog and give her a follow because she’s awesome! K, thanks.

Spotlight Blog PostThere are two blog posts I want to spotlight this week! They come from two great bloggers and are of interesting topics we should have check out.

First off The Key to Beating Writer’s Block – The Book Reviewer’s Edition by Aentee @ ReadAtMidnight. If you have never experienced some sort of writer’s block at some point in your life then count your blessings. I experience this on a weekly basis and it can get really hard to write reviews after a while. But in this discussion post, Aentee gives you some helpful advice and feedback on different ways to combat the writer’s block. One that stuck out for me was when writing a review for a book that you have an unpopular opinion about. For me it was Throne of Glass. I disliked it and didn’t think the hype was worth it, but Aentee says:

TIPS FOR SUCCESS:  Voice your opinion proudly, everyone loves the black sheep 😉  As long as you are fair in your review, no one will have beef with you.

Very sound advice. Be fair and there will be no issues!

The second blog post I want to spotlight this week is Let’s Talk About Sex [in YA], Baby by Jess @ PrincessicaofBooks. It talks about if sex scenes in young adult books are ok or not. In my opinion I believe that they are absolutely necessary when the situation permits them. Teens have sex. It’s normal and it’s all apart of growing up. So why shouldn’t YA books who are for teens in that age group have sex scenes. So that’s where I stand on the issue! Here’s a little excerpt from her post that 100% agree with:

Personally, if I am reading any YA romance novel, then I expect a sex scene. It’s realistic. Young adult is written in the point of view of a teenager. Most teenagers are not abstinent, no matter how hard it is drilled into their heads in health class. They have sex. And it’s an important part in their life, especially if it’s the first time or if it’s with someone they truly love.

Spotlight BookThe book I want to spotlight this week is a book that I recently finished and absolutely loved! It’s none other than Shadow and Bone by Leigh Bardugo.

Shadow and BoneI can’t count how many times this book has been recommended to me, but I just kept putting it off. The hype was too much for me. Looking back I regret doing so because I absolutely loved this book and wished I’d read it earlier. Here’s the synopsis:

Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.

Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.

Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha . . . and the secrets of her heart.

If you haven’t read this book yet, don’t be like me and put it off. GO READ IT NOW!

Spotlight MomentThis month has been busy. I am moving back home at the end of it and I am completely overwhelmed. There is just so much I have to do, With packing, preparing, shipping back my books, I have almost no free time. When I do I tend to use it to catch up on some sleep.

So I guess my highlight this week would have to be right now. Actually getting to sit down and do what I love: BLOG!

I have a lot to catch up on and so many reviews that are still needing to be written, so I am hoping that I have all the time to do that today. I owe it to my readers to stay consistent!

Spotlight AppGuys, I am warning you now. If you love your life the way it is right now then beware of this APP. It has taken over my life and I am addicted to playing it!

Pokemon Shuffle Mobile

Pokemon Shuffle App

– A whole new puzzle game where you solve puzzles to battle Pokémon

Pokémon Shuffle Mobile is a puzzle game where you line up three or more Pokémon vertically or horizontally to battle against wild Pokémon.
You can play it casually—but battling, collecting, and leveling up Pokémon can also provide hours of fun.

But seriously, go get this app if you love Pokemon and puzzles because it’s a lot of fun!

Spotlight SongI’m bringing you another two amazing songs this week! Bot are new releases. One is from a new favorite girl group of mine, and the other is a new boy band that recently debuted!

red velvetDumb Dumb – Red Velvet

Last week I spotlighted their last release in prelude to this one. And do I dare say that this song is their best yet? It’s fun, addicting, and get a great brassy sound! The music video stayed true to Red Velvet’s weird and outrageous imagery and damn that choreo was on point!  “Dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb dumb” I just can’t get it out of my head!!

Day6Congratulations – Day6

JYP Entertainment’s newest boy band, Day6 just released their first EP. Going for the band concept it was very refreshing to see in the mass of hard hitting, bad boy, sexy boy groups out right now. The song itself is smooth and easy to listen to and the music video was on point with visuals and sound. A great debut in my opinion!

Spotlight QuoteLastly I bring you another quote from Twitter this week!

“Receive criticism with a smile, then politely ignore it.” – Matt Keenan @MattCrazy_

Never let someone’s criticism whether constructive or not affect you in a negative way. Smile and brush it off. Not everyone can be as cool and great as you. Be the bigger person!

Well there ya have it guys! My fourth Spotlight Saturday post! Thanks again Josie for letting me join in on the fun. Tell me what you guys want to put a spotlight on, I would love to know!

Until next time,

Sig New

      1. That would be nice ! And yeah so many shows… and so many books. And well, life.
I don’t know yet if I’ll talk about some tv shows on my blog. Some are kind of book related but still… but be sure I’m gonna bother you about it haha 😉

      2. Yes! Legends of Tomorrow looks awesome 😀
I’m not too too worried about Shadowhunters. The fans just have to give it a chance without being so book critical.

So aside from those two, I’m looking forward to Quantico and Scream Queens.

  2. Omg I didn’t know that you loved dance and kpop! I haven’t checked out Red Velvet’s new song but I’m not a huge fan of them (I’m sorry!). I did like “Automatic” by them though. I love the precise dance and the smooth feeling of that track. However, I definitely wholeheartedly agree with you on “Congratulations” being a fantastic debut! I’m pretty sure I already have a bias in that group XD

    1. I’m horrible when it comes to new groups and names. So I have no bias yet… too many members to choose from.

It’s a shame you’re not a fan of Red Velvet because they’re an awesome girl group. But yay for KPOP love:D

  3. Hi Jesse Nicholas (or do you prefer being called just Jesse? So sorry, I tend to get quite confused with two worded names)! So this is going to sound awkward, but I don’t think we’ve talked before but we have so many mutual blogging friends and you’re so omnipresent in the WP book blogging community. I stumbled upon this post and what, you like K-pop too? Omg. Who is your favorite group and ultimate bias? Ahh, Dumb Dumb. I’m not a huge fan of “Dumb Dumb” (it could be because of the concept, they all remind me of Pippi Longstocking and she reminds me of dolls. And I’m kind of scared of those…) but it’s a very catchy song and I’m sure after a few more listens I’ll be converted to the group that can’t get it out of their heads. AND WOW, thank you for sharing that Day6 song! I love it! My current K-pop obsession is F.T. Island’s “Pray,” but it’s been out for a while now.

And I am so happy to hear that you loved Shadow and Bone! I recently read that one this year and was caught off guard by how good it was regardless of the stellar reviews and hype!

Great post! I really enjoy reading the more personal ones. ^.^ Anyway, I hope that we get the chance to get to know each other better (even though technically I’m not as active anymore)! Happy reading and blogging, Jesse!

    1. Just Jesse is fine. I love KPOP! I’ve been listening to it for over 8 years now! My ultimate group is Girls Generation and my ultimate bias is Hyoyeon!! I love the catchy beats of Red Velvet. Keep giving them a chance, I think they’ll grow on you.

Shadow and Bone was awesome! Can’t wait to read the sequel. Yes I do hope to get the chance to keep chatting! Even if its just about KPOP haha

      1. Oh gosh, 8 years has been a while. Even though a lot of my Korean friends were avid K-poppers growing up, I never really got into it until I saw the Sydney K-pop Fest in 2011 on DVD. It was pretty awesome. And Hyoyeon is so funny! I love her humor and the fact that she’s never afraid to be herself! I really enjoy a lot of SM groups, haha. My favorite band being Exo, which is not really a huge surprise.

And I’m sure you’ll love Siege and Storm, Jesse! Get ready for Sturmhond!

  4. I’m glad you enjoyed Shadow and Bone! I hope you like the next book too. Thanks for the song recommendation. I’m not a fan of Red Velvet but Dumb Dumb does have a catchy tune and I liked it. I totally loved the Congratulations by Day6! I really liked the concept and the video. Need to check out their other tracks too. 😀
